Mommy's Little Helpers

Who says you can't make your kids think that work is actually just a lot of fun. I have to admit that without breaking any child labor laws my kids work a lot and are really good at it, and we have fun doing it. Canoe was just thrilled to help run the apricots through the squeezomatic. Although some may say that its crazy to go to the work of canning, we had a blast and have 8 quarts of apricot syrup, and 10 pints of apricot jam. It was fun and worth it.
I took all the boys to a nearby house that had ample apricots and enlisted their expertise at picking apricots. They actually did a really good job. Canoe is still a little unsure on his colors so we ended up with a few green ones, but Blue and Red both were really careful to not get any that the birds or the bugs had already gotten to. Red is taking a bite of an apricot while looking cool and taking a bite out of crime. Its all fake of course because Red wouldn't be caught dead eating an unwashed piece of fruit. Its all just for a good scrapbook picture. My kids obviously know my passion.... they work hard to supply me with plenty of pictures to scrap. Blue is a really good boy. He works hard whenever asked. I can always count on him to pick up 15 toys when asked to do 10. He likes to help and make mom smile. And I am constantly doing just that because he is such a good boy.
Canoe of course will try any new food and usually likes it. But if he doesn't one bite is all it takes and he makes a dead bolt for the garbage can to spit every last bit of it out. Occasionally he does this with foods that he likes as well.... only because he shoves way too much in at one time and is gagging on the a mouthful so has to spit that as well. KIDS!
And then of course the tables are turned and they all wanted a turn to use the camera as well, so here I am loading buckets of apricot into the van. SAY CHEESE!

Canoe looks like such a little man in that picture! I remember when my mom use to make us crank the handle to make applesauce.
